Garadia Mahadev view of the Chambal, Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve
Stone fort remains in the Mukundra Hills forest near Darrah, Kota

Darrah

Darrah Wildlife Sanctuary is the historic jungle block of Kota and now sits in Mukundra’s core. Dry hills, leopard country, and the old royal hunting forest that Kota people still name first. Use this gate only when it is printed on your permit — Mukundra is long and narrow; the wrong gate wastes the slot.

Abheda Mahal in Kota, the city gateway to Mukundra Hills

Daulatganj & Borabas

A closer buffer circuit for Kota visitors: heritage forest, Garadia cliffs and a same-gate return if the Forest office issues that entry. Good when you want dawn light without a long transfer. It is still forest protocol — ID, gypsy, guide — not a picnic meadow.

Chambal river meander on the Mukundra Hills landscape near Garadia

Jawahar Sagar

Reservoir and riverine habitat inside the core landscape, linked to the Chambal system. Access depends on the day’s official route. Expect water, hill forest and, from viewpoints, mugger country — not a boat safari sold on this site.

View from Garadia Mahadev into the Chambal gorge, Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve

Chambal & Garadia

The horseshoe of the Chambal and the cliffs at Garadia Mahadev. Part of National Chambal Sanctuary forms the river core of Mukundra, from Garadia to Jawahar Sagar Dam. Stay behind railings. The gorge is why this reserve feels unlike Ranthambore’s plateau forest.
